A magazine created, produced and imagined by the students at the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa

The theme of this year's issue of PUSH/PULL started out simply - as three. It was the third issue and after tossing around a couple of different ideas we had some sense of the colloquial and photographic value that playing on theme of three could have. We quickly realized after brainstorming that three is not just the 3 wheels on tricycle, the three sides on a triangle or the latest 3-D movie. Religion, mathematics, philosophy, biology, engineering, language, social structures, astrology, sports, physics and more - all embodying some fundamental association with three. At this point we had no choice but to reconsider. The theme evolved from three and became Threeness.

This issue of Push/Pull poses a question. If "3" is a symbol or glyph that signifies or refers to a particular sort of understanding, what are the concepts that enable that signification and how do those concepts translate into a photograph?

Some of the answers to this question are within.
