| Khalia Scott's Biography | ||||
| Khalia Scott is a co-founder of the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa and a photo-based artist. President of the X Ottawa Photography Festival, and a grant recipient, she has worked in the photographic print media for over 10 years, and has produced and shown her work in various studios and galleries in Ontario and Quebec. Previous to SPAO's founding, in addition to her personal practice, she worked commercially as an assistant photographer and stylist at the professional level and as an instructor both privately and in academe. Scott has taken both private and public schooling, and pursued in an autodidactic manner, a variety of art and craft media including jewellery making, millinery, and filmmaking in addition to photography. In 1986 she founded a business designing and creating women's accessories that continues under the name Eclection. Scott is director of SPAO, and instructs there while curating SPAO's Red Wall Gallery. She is also president and co-founder of X Ottawa Photography Festival and the head of its programming committee, and sits on the board of the Byward Market BIA. Scott's role as SPAO director includes outreach, and her speaking, jury, portfolio review and collaborative engagements have been with diverse organizations such as the Council for the Arts in Ottawa, l'Alliance Francaise, Independent Filmakers of Ottawa Co-operative, City of Ottawa Markets Management, Embassy of France in Canada, Arts Ottawa East, the R.A. Camera Club, Camera Club of Ottawa, Young at Art, Carleton University's Friends of Art History, the Portrait Gallery of Canada and Le Mois de la photo à Montréal.
