Course Description
This course builds on the basic fundamentals of digital image capture to enhance your knowledge through lectures, demonstrations, discussions and practical exercises that will further develop your skills and your photographic eye.
Areas of study will include: mastering camera controls, using light evocatively, understanding composition, controlling colour, file management, digital darkroom manipulation, and inkjet printing procedures.
Gallery visits, discussions and lectures will inform you of the history of photography and create an awareness of the many genres of contemporary photography. Students will be encouraged to pursue a personal mode of expression such as portraiture, landscape, architecture, still life, etc. Assignment work will be evaluated on a one-on-one basis providing feedback on technical skills and aesthetic vision.
Students must have their own Digital SLR camera and laptop computer with Adobe Lightroom installed. Thirty-day trial versions of the software are available. As this is an intermediate level course participants are expected to have working knowledge of their equipment and software. Recommended prerequisite is Foundation in Digital Photography or its equivalent. Enrolment is limited to ensure one-on-one attention.
