Course Description
This new course invites students with darkroom experience to improve upon their black and white printmaking skills. Under the expert mentorship of Brandon Clarida, students are invited to practice the art of gelatin silver printmaking at their own pace. Whether it is refresher of past skills, help with a new project or simply a need for creative guidance to take your printing to the next level, this course is designed for you.
This course is structured as a guided working period, in which Brandon will address issues and questions with the students as needs arise and the course progresses. The small class size and one on one instruction are tailored to your needs. This unique approach allows for students of varied skill levels to comfortably learn and work together in a collaborative environment, while ensuring a maximum amount of hands-on time for producing outstanding gelatin silver prints.
Darkroom chemistry is included in the tuition fee for this course. Students must purchase their own film and photographic paper, and have their own manual 35 mm or medium format film camera. This is an intermediate level course. Participants are expected to have working knowledge of their equipment and some darkroom experience. Recommended prerequisite is Classic Black and White Photography II, or its equivalent. Enrolment is limited to ensure one-on-one attention.
