  Sonia Pescatore
Vice President

Ottawa-born pianist Sonia Pescatore holds pedagogy and performance diplomas ⟨ARCT⟩ from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Her post-secondary study began at Carleton University and continued at the University of Ottawa with Cynthia Floyd. After several successful competitions, Sonia studied on scholarship with Christina Petrowska in Toronto and completed her Bachelor of Music (University of Montréal⟩ in performance with Natalie Pepin. She is co-founder of Camerata Music - a unique teaching studio in Ottawa, well-known for its support of contemporary music and its programming based on an individual learning style.

Sonia has been heard in concert as soloist, accompanist and chamber musician, including appearances with OPEN SCORE in co-production with the CBC, several performances for Les Concerts Ponticello, and recitals for various chamber music associations including established concerts series "Les Amis" in Toronto. In 2007 she co-hosted and co-founded the BORDER CROSSING concert series at the NAC ⟨fourth stage⟩ with the premise to promote annual performances of alternative styles of music including Classical/Jazz fusion and compositions by Canadian artists.

In order to encourage the exposure of contemporary music, she has enjoyed facilitating workshops for the University of Ottawa, The Suzuki Association, as well as adjudicating the Contemporary Showcase Festival 2005 in Ottawa, Montreal in 2006, and in North Bay in 2007.

Sonia's latest efforts have earned her a Master's degree at the University of Ottawa with Andrew Tunis, highlighting her particular love of New Music and the contemporary idiom in general. Her recitals focused on chamber and solo works mainly by Canadian composers, including Alexina Louie, Jean Coulthard, Ann Southam, and a major piano work composed especially for her by the late Patrick Cardy.

Sonia's playing has been described as having a "gorgeous, luminous sonority.." and her choice of repertoire as being far from cliché.

  Khalia Scott
Secretary

Khalia Scott was born in Berkeley California in 1964, moved to Ottawa as a child, and has lived and worked there for most of her life. She has taken both private and public schooling, and pursued in an autodidactic manner, a variety of art and craft media including jewellery-making, millinery, photography, film, and printmaking. In 1986, while working on a science degree in Biology, she started Ear Gear, a business designing and creating women's accessories. Ear Gear began as a booth in Artist's Alley, and has grown and evolved over the years, continuing still to feature its own handmade pieces and other Canadian designed accessories under new ownership and a new name Eclection. Khalia started creating photographic images in 1983 and began a rigorous program of self-education in photography. In 1994 Khalia scaled down her business involvement to concentrate on developing her photographic projects. She has since been associated with the Salon Claque and other creative bodies that have produced a wide spectrum of photo-based projects. Khalia is co-founder and director of the School of the Photographic Arts; Ottawa, and instructs there in the full time Portfolio Program while curating SPAO's Red Wall Gallery.   Michael Tardioli
Treasurer

For almost 20 years, Michael Tardioli has been a professional, award-winning photographer in the Ottawa region. During this time he developed new techniques in printmaking to enhance the presence of black and white photographs. The success of these techniques was made evident by the numerous prestigious commissions he received. Clients included such public figures as Mitchell Sharp, Margaret Trudeau, and Roberta Bondar, among many others. During this time a reputation developed that led to acquisitions of his work for public and permanent display at the National Archives, the National Arts Centre, and the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario; the latter resulting in a published book of fine-art portraits of children.

The success he experienced as a portraiture photographer has led to two different and significant directions in his career: the development of his teaching skills and commercial photography incorporating elevated production values. Significant clients he has worked with include the Canada Council for the Arts, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Canadian Museum of Nature. His digital work has also been recognized, notably through receipt of the 2003 Canadian Applied Arts Award for his unpublished photograph of singer/songwriter Kathleen Edwards.

Tardioli's teaching career began in 2000 when he was first approached to teach a Continuing Education course in black and white photography at Algonquin College. In 2005 Michael co-founded SPAO to create an intensive photographic experience for those seeking to hone their skills or pursue an artistic or professional photographic practice.
