  PORTFOLIO PROGRAM 2010 / 2011
APPLICATION AND ADMISSION PROCESS

The eight basic steps to the application and admission process are listed below.

1. Appointment
Contact SPAO to book a date(s) for a Facilities Tour, Director’s Interview, and Portfolio Review. Submit completed Applicant Information Form (Form A) before your appointment.

2. Facilities Tour
Tour the SPAO facilities one-on-one with a director or instructor.

3. Director's Interview
Meet with SPAO Directors for an Interview and to ask questions about SPAO and its Portfolio Program.
Through this question and answer session applicants will be screened for suitability to SPAO’s teaching approach and community-oriented atmosphere. The interview will also give applicants an opportunity to ask questions and determine whether the SPAO Portfolio Program is a good fit for them.

4. Portfolio Review
Meet with SPAO Directors to review and discuss your collection of work to date. Level 1 Admission Portfolio Reviews are very informal; work from all media are encouraged, and serve in large part as a point of discussion as opposed to an evaluative tool. Portfolio Reviews increase in rigor from Level 1 up to Level 2 and finally to Level 3.

  5. Application for Admission
Once individuals have completed steps 1-4 above, they will be notified of the outcome, in person, by email, or by mail. Some will be then invited to formally apply to the SPAO Portfolio Program. Those who would like to be considered for admission into the upcoming school year, must fill out and submit, with the application fee and references, by the specified date, the SPAO Portfolio Program Application Form (Form B).

6. Offer of Admission: Response and Reservation
Once an individual has submitted a SPAO Portfolio Program Application Form (Form B), if it is on time and complete, their references will be contacted and their candidacy considered for the spaces available in the SPAO Portfolio Program. Selected individuals will receive formal Offers of Admission to the SPAO Portfolio Program. They must fill out the Offer of Admission Response Form (Form C) and remit it with a $500.00 tuition deposit to reserve their place in the Program. Spaces in the Program will only be held for applicants complying completely with all aspects of the registration process, and then only until the full tuition is due.

7. Enrollment and Tuition Payment
The remaining balance of the Portfolio Program tuition is due in full on the Tuition Due Date. Please see Application, Tuition and Materials Fees, Levels 1, 2 and 3 for due dates, tuition amounts and information on early payment discounts. Enrolling students must fill out and submit the Portfolio Program Student Enrollment Form (Form D) with their tuition balance.

8. Welcome
Students enrolled in the SPAO Portfolio Program are invited to consult with SPAO directors as they equip themselves and prepare for the upcoming school year. Formal orientation and information sessions and social mixers will be held on dates to be announced.
